As per planned, Gaya street market. A&J Hostel is about 1 minute walk to the Gaya Street Market where you can find a lot of souvenirs, Sabah souvenir T-shirts, local fruits and lots more. This street full with local, friendliness and kindness. We love local and enjoy walking along the streets. Kids were enjoying to deal with local Sabahan as well as enjoying the food. The increasing of tourist to Sabah, local Sabahan has also diversified to speak mandarin and play mandarin song for entertainment. Chinese tourist were everywhere around the place.

Texture and smell are mixture of local nona and soursop. I love that!
Sweet and pineapple... small and taste great! Lesson learn, bring a small camping knife along when you go travel. It is very helpful.
Something special to us, Sabah Gasing! Gasing is a traditional game played by local Malaysian and started from Kelantan and Sabah has a different kind of Gasing. As it rotates, it creates a the "woong woong" sound.

My wife and I have been to Kelly Monsopiad back 12 years ago, and this time we were bringing our children to the place again as well. The trip can refreshed our memories. But somehow a lot has been changed and those entertainer has been retired and none of them in the village anymore. But the friendliness still there. Although the price has been gone up but still worth to go! I would recommend more people to visit Kelly Monsopiad, which a village with true warrior and being one of the contributors to preserve their culture and real antique. This placed can be reached via Grab or Mycar apps.
Always fun to have them along! Great preserve on this place.

Kadazan traditional gong and the journalist for my trip
Explore the environment before the host came to us. Monsopiad village provide a host to explain its tradition clearly. Provide samples as well as live demonstration for your full understanding.
Kadazan believes that there was a spirit in this stone that can protect the villages. In the old days, they believed in Bomoh to heal their illness. They carried this giant stone from Pulau Gaya back in 200 years ago. The 4 bamboos were used to locate the enemy head on it. The warrior will cut the enemy hair and put it on their weapon. The more the hair, the higher respect of warrior he was. And Kelly Monsopiad Village was name after the warrior Monsopiad.
Bambangan (Exotic Fruit) was served. Thick skin, rough flesh, taste like mango, eating the skin can make your mouth feel numb.
They were the expert of rice wine. However, Kelly Monsopiad provides variety of rice wines for us to try. Some taste like whisky and some taste like herbs.

How the Kota Kinabalu was named, Aki means "Ancestor" and Nabalu means "Mountain" in Kadazan Dusun (Which is the most populated in Sabah). They believe their Ancestor is living in the mountain.

Ended the Kelly Monsopiad Village visit with a cup of afternoon coffee break! There were more event that we did not cover in these pictures. We did not join the culture show due to time was tight, we need to meet up with another family that has already arrived KK. The skull house were not allowed to take pictures and we respected that. They still preserved the real skull.
Finally met up with the other family members where they were very kind and nice person. Both kids and parents could matched and have nice outing together. We brought back a lot of memories and pictures. Time for dinner!

BBQ chicken wing that we missed 12 yrs ago + Salted egg fried prawn. The rest was not able to capture as the serving was a bit slow and we had finish it in hurry out of hunger!

The crowded scene and entertainment were provided on donation only... Simple and relaxing lifestyle of Sabahan... just keep it simple and nice!
Ended our tour for Day 2 and we were preparing to leave KK town tomorrow for Polumpung; where our adventure trip begun!
