Sabah 2019 Day 1

10-8-2019

Woke up as early as 4.30am to prepare ourselves to catch the earliest 7am flight to Sabah.

While waiting for time, take away some light breakfast. Always to have some light food in the bag while waiting for flights, especially Air Asia. Flight delay is commonly happen, worse when there were thunder storm in Langkawi on a day before our flight and causing the flight to cancel the trip from Langkawi to Penang.

Waiting patiently for their KFC food order.

We were ready for....

Breakfast!!!

Trip begun, lets wefie before taking off!

My little model, give me a pose and say bye bye to Penang!

Can't wait for the flight

This guy took safety into priority.

Breakfast in the air.

We found many new friends during this trip.

After 3 hours long journey, we arrived KK. Let's Rock!!!

Arriving in Kota Kinabalu at 10am is pretty early and we were unable to check in hotel. Out of no where, we went to Suria Sabah, which is just 500 meters away from our rented hotel. Killing time while waiting for check-in at 3pm.

Ice-cream time!

Ice-cream licking good!

Have fun with photo shooting

Tourist from China!

Cow Girl! Hi Har!

View of Kota Kinabalu old town full with feel.

Thanks to Alvin and Jacq Suite allowing us to drop our baggage and continue killing time at KK town. Kota Kinabalu Market was the place where I love to hang out with, enjoying viewing the local Dusun selling vegetables and fruits in the market. The hawker center at the top floor has been changed since the last visit. Many stalls were change and the nature of business were change as well. Never forget to visit the Seafood market just right behind the KK Market.

View of KK town on from the overpass.

The view of the long overpass

This guy sit anywhere whenever he is tired!

Seafood Market! Never forget to visit this seafood market before go to the top floor food court. You can purchase the seafood from this market and request the stall seller to help to cook for you. Small service charges will be applied into your end bill.

Clamp!!! Just only RM 20/kg for the giant clamp and RM 10 for the cooking service charges.

Starts playing indoor soccer in "KK Market Stadium"! Mix around with the local Sabahan!

He is my our friend from Sabah!

It was time to explore the market. Children will never like to go to Market, especially the wet market; because of the seafood smell. I just love this place.... Rich with all kinds of seafood. Will be back to this place before leaving Sabah.

Scene of Kota Kinabalu wet Market. People are friendly and place to practice your bargain skill.

If you are a crab lover, you will know where is the blinking spot.

Lobster, scallop, crabs and giant prawn were popular item in the market. If I were living in Sabah, I am sure I will die of Cholesterol!

After all, the seaview from the market was one of the "punch card" destination. Has a little feel of New Zealand back in 2017, how ever the weather and the cleanliness were way too hug gap. Sabah really need to catch up a lot.

 Popular fishing boat in Sabah.

 Act cute?

Motor boat is part of their daily transportation like a sea taxi; which rarely been seen Penang.

On the way back to the suites for check in, we grabbed some fruits along the way and we found what we were looking for. Pamelo, Durian Dalit, Bambangan Fruit, Tarap and Sabah Nona.

While I was negotiating price with the fruit seller on Tarap fruit, these 2 chicky was selecting the banana. Selling at RM 2!

This is Durian Dalit. As big as your hand palm. Only cost RM 2/pc

 Closer look

Sticky but not very heavy smell

Thin flash, taste like Kuih Durian.

Flag up for the National Day preparation.

Finally checked in at 3pm, refreshed and time for a nap. Continue dinner hunting at 8pm. Seafood is everywhere around the waterfront and you can have all your favourite types of seafood, Chinese style, Halal style or local delights. However local delights have been modified to suit the increase of Chinese tourist demand. Local Sabahan is able to cook butter milk, steam fish, kong pou, fried butter milk, salted egg and so on... While Filipino Market seafood still remain BBQ local delights. Most of the Sabahan in the market place are able to speak fluent Mandarin to serve the increase demand of Chinese tourist. Most are Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The nature attraction such as Semporna, Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, Tawau, Mabul Island, Sipadan and so on.

Self check-in Airbnb. Given Padlock number and digital door number by the owner for self-check in. This applied the same when I was in Germany few years back.

Lobster, giant prawns were available, price was similar with the wet market but this price include serving. Has no reason for me not to try!

Giant Squid! Not really my favourite... medium size for Goreng Tepung (crispy fried) will be my wife's choice.

Variety of cooking style in multi languages, price (still can be bargained). You can see a lot of Chinese cooking style, serve by Malay. Can be considered as Halal food.

BBQ style back in those days... These group still preserve the old method but hardly to see Ikan Mata Besar (Big Eye Fish).

Giant Oyster and scallop. Due to the previous Hat Yai experience, I am really worry eating raw oyster. I gave a passed this time to avoid stomach upset at the beginning of the trip.

Colorful fish... Looks attractive...

BBQ Chicken wing... We also gave a passed on this time, can't eat much with only 2 adults.

Due to Hari Raya Haji Eve, there were limited stalls and seafood; we finally decided this stalled.

 Steam Red Snapper

Can't resist to try 1 lobster. Divide into 2 cooking style. Garlic gravy style.

Butter milk! My personal opinion... it is not worth to try Lobster, as this is not the Boston lobster. It is expensive because the shell carried 60% of the weight and it cost RM 150~180/kg depends on species.

Sabah seaweed for testing. Looks like grapes ya... just salty and you can eat it raw.

Family photo before the food starts!

This picture shows how greedy I was!

Another giant size of seafood.

 Unique style of posing

Landmark of Sawfish in KK town

Luxury cruise of enjoyment...

A meal full with cholesterol ended our 1st day tour in Kota Kinabalu. Enjoy the suite facility... the double beds! Started the trip with relaxation and welcoming more excitement on the upcoming Gaya Street Morning Market...
