As everyone knows that Germany is one of the leading countries in the entire Europe. Productivity will be their priority! And everyone knows they have very short working hours and they also have the lowest unemployment rate in the world. 2.5% unemployment.
Productivity – Efficiency – Professional – Education – Family Education
In order to have maximum productivity, we need to have the best efficiency. Efficiency means maximum productivity in shortest time. In order to produce the maximum efficiency, we need the professional to make it happen. For example, you need engineer to build machine to speed up the process. Engineer is a professional. In order to build talent, we need to educate them. Their government is very emphasis on education. They give free education to their entire citizen to further study up to undergraduate education. Even in their education system, they reduce their education duration but producing a quality professional. All German will undergo 3 years kindergarten, 4 years primary school, and 6 years vocational school before continue their 4 years study in University to complete their degree. By the age of 20 they will be graduated from University with a bachelor degree certificate and experience in handling their work. In Germany, they spend a lot of time with their family. They work hard but they go home sharp at 5pm. The more time they spend with their children, the more they educate their children. Family education is very important. Children good attitude build from home. They see all this, and they know where the problems and they solve it.
Good attitude include punctuality. German develops this good attitude in them and they don’t have to waste time waiting for each other. I was having a meeting with my customer at 9am in the morning and I was there waiting in the meeting room at 8.55am. Only 1 customer out of 4 was in the office. By 9am sharp, the engineers, the manager and the director walk into the meeting room. I was shock and surprise to see them so punctual. This is the habit that we should change and develop. In Malaysia, we start work at 8am. But we can see that there are several people punching their card at 8am; and yet there are late comers. In Germany, they don’t have to punch their card but at 8am sharp, they are already there at the meeting room to begin their briefing. Every day they will have briefing on what are they going to do today and what are their expectation for today. By the end of the day, they will give a report on what they have done for the day.
I had heard from a lot of people saying that Germans are very rude!!! If 1 German is rude, then he/she is rude. But if all the Germans behave that way, then you can’t say all the Germans are rude. That is their culture. I would like to advise that please like at things positively. They have been developing their culture this way and they become the leading country in the world, then there is something for us to learn from them. Meeting with 1 director, 1 manager and 2 engineers it only takes 30 minutes and it is done. Unlike us, spending hours in the meeting but the important items to discuss is only 15 minutes and sometimes we have no conclusion in the meeting. The German keeps their words short, straight to the point and make their objective clear. In our culture, we may say it is rude. And they request for clear answer. Yes, no or refer to who? They are not interested in detail, because that is not part of their job, it is your job!!! That is how they reduce their meeting hours. If you cannot make the decision, there is no point keep asking you, they will ask the one that can make the decision.
