The MCO Diary (Continue)

 MCO day 16 (2 April 2020)

Stephen Chow was the famous actor for the 80’s Chinese. He directed the movie “God of Cookery” in year 1996. The filming shows that the judge tears after eating the Char Siew Rice from the God of Cookery… However, in 2020 an idiot cooked the same dish for his sons and cause the sky to have heavy rain! That was Stephen Chow special recipe had been modified!

If you were born and live in Malaysia, there is no reason for you not to love nasi lemak, where by the unique taste of combining all race and culture in Malaysia. There are Chinese, Indian and Malays are selling Nasi Lemak around the corner in Malaysia. From RM 1 to RM 75 of price range depends on the food quality you are looking for and no doubt it is delicious at all price range. During the MCO most of the shops are close down so we have to DIY our own Nasi Lemak and register in our menu.

MCO day 17 (3 April 2020)

After 16 days of lock down at home (my children had not step out of the house at all), finally I gave them some freedom to step out of the house as there is no one at the backyard. His expression shows how happy he was to regain his freedom to run.

MCO day 18 (4 April 2020)

I love to invent something since I was young. I start to play with Lego when I was 4 year-old. I started to imagine things from there. One of the idea that I have in mind was the roller shoe where the normal but added a roller at the back end of the shoe to allow the kids to roll and walk. But no one sell my idea. Later, this idea shoe was popularly sold in the market. Never limit and look down on an idea even though it is just a kid. My son used Lego and assemble an AGV by his own idea with multiple lighting. He has not been to any industries and have not seen anything like this but base on his creativity he has done it!

AGV is an Automated Guided Vehicle where it is widely use in the modern industrial to replace human from carrying load to the designated location. The AGV has is driven automatically.

MCO day 19 (5 April 2020)

Safety in Malaysia almost neglected or with minimum awareness. However, I do practice safety first even at home to reduce injury to the max. Safety goggle and dust filter mask were the PPE require for wood sanding. 2 hours of wood sanding every day for project 3 with my little help from my son. This project takes time to sand the wood piece by piece from the rough pallet.

With the increasing of cooking in at home, there was also the increasing of ants in our kitchen. One of the way to reduce the ant from coming in is to seal the holes on the wall and gave it no choice to move out from their home. Seal patching work in kitchen and it works to reduce the ant. However, that is not for long as the ants were smart enough to move in via windows and doors. We still have to rely on the petrochemical to chase the ants away.

MCO day 20 (6 April 2020)

As I always educate my children not to be a beggar, beggar always a loser, treat! They learn well. They made me a cup of coffee for my tea break and trade with Milo shake. That is the power of negotiation! I said it, I mean it. I want to make them feels that trade wins, so I keep my promise to make them a Milo shake. Proud of them, they learned well.

MCO day 21 (7 April 2020)

It was not a Locusts, but just only a grasshopper. Locusts is the family species of grasshopper, but luckily it did not appear in Malaysia. Locusts travel fast and travel in big swamp. It also has a huge appetite where farmers has the most worry on this insect. Once it strike, there is no chance to stop and it just kill all your plantation in just few days. We were blessed that it is just only a grasshopper and let it hop from 1 tree to another. Fortunate that they did not bring their family to our mini garden.

MCO day 22 (8 April 2020)

It is very important to have a good neighbor that can share and help each other when we needed help. I was blessed that I have a good neighbor in Penang. We helped to watch out each other’s children and we also share delicious food. They shared bird nest to us, not 1 but 4!!! Thanks neighbor.

MCO day 23 (9 April 2020)

Coming back to my cookery menu, it was so tempting to try the cod fish where I have eaten during my young days. My father loves cod fish as well. Ok lah… let’s purchase from Ken Seng a friend of mine who has been working hard for his business career and providing import and local frozen seafood. Trying something new, doing something that I have not done before or walk the talk and keep my life exciting. If I have fail, at least I have tried it once before. Looking forward to add this cod fish in my cookery menu.

MCO day 24 (10 April 2020)

As the day gone by, my hair is getting longer until it can be tie up. Match my Kathana to rob the bank… must not forget the facemask! I usually cut my hair once a month. During the MCO period, all burble shop were not permitted to open due to close contact with the client. Many new burble were born at this stage to adapt the new normal. However, I still prefer to tie up my hair at the moment to be the Japanese Samurai.

Today my favorite chef done something miracle to surprise us with her cod fish. It was nice and to my surprise the taste meet the restaurant level. Pan fried the cod fish first then only steam to reduce the fish fat juice gone into the gravy. Loving it! Too bad, we can’t have it often as it is expensive and Chong Hee does not like it.

MCO day 25 (11 April 2020)

It is always good to have kids helping up in the house chore. With one is helping to wash the plates and the other one to clean up the detergent with the supervision from the mom helps to speed up the house work and allow them to learn up some skill at home. Kids should trained to be independent as much as possible. It helps to develop children living skill. While for me, I am waiting for my son to pick up my home DIY work one day.

MCO day 26 (12 April 2020)

Be thankful, be bless and do more charity with heart. You will be surprised by the nature of return when you be good to other people. Out of nowhere my desire was answered with a plate of clam and fish head soup treat from my neighbor. I appreciate to have a good neighbor and we kept sharing our new invention of food with each other. This dish serve well with pan fried salmon and spaghetti.

After weeks of sanding the wood, finally it was done! All the woods were sanded with nice surface finishing and ready for nailing. I would prefer to screw the wood rather than nailing as it may has higher possibility to damage the wood when hitting the nail. Ordering the screws via online apps. Wait for the arrival of the accessories and begin to assemble.

MCO day 27 (13 April 2020)

Since after I have changed my job in 2020, I have been reducing my regular badminton exercise due to uncertain job load and also distance traveling from Batu Kawan to Raja Uda. Starting from only can play for 2 matches in 1.5 hrs and increase to 4 matches in 1.5 hrs. Although I am not good in playing badminton game but the improvement of my stamina was my achievement for the game throughout 5 to 6 months continuous weekly match in year 2019. You can imagine how much I miss this game during this MCO period where I have to stay at home.

However from this pandemic that is continuing, we need to seek for a new way out for the new normal until the vaccine is establish in the market. This MCO also give me a chance to get rounded with nice food, experiment food.

MCO day 28 (14 April 2020)

Parents always the role model for the children. Since the MCO, we have been cooking several of new dishes for our menu and took some photo for memory (some post on facebook too). My son learn from us to take food picture. This day he borrowed my phone to capture his favourite cake with the similar setup that we did before. It is not about the outcome of the picture but the meaning behind the picture is very important and I took the behind the scene photo, captured the moment of him being creative and encourage him to grow his interest on things other than just play. I love that photo too!

MCO day 29 (15 April 2020)

Tomato egg was my sons’ favourite dish and it is only able to cook by my wife. There are some secret recipe in it to make it tasty. Today I gave a second trail after got the recipe from her but it just incomplete. There are still some part to improve from the cooking method. Anyhow, my sons were very supportive, they finish all of it even though it is only 70% successful.

MCO day 30 (16 April 2020)

Already 30 days at home… starting to have some temptation on hawker food of Penang. I have this feeling when I was in Austria many years ago and Har Mee made my day. A bowl of instant noodle of Har Mee (Penang Hokkien Mee) east my temptation on hawker food.

Weekend is coming and I am planning to finish my up my wood work over the weekend but sadly items order from online yet to ship out after weeks of order and I just can’t wait anymore. Purchased some hardware from the nearby hardware shops… here goes my purchased item (some brackets and shellac) and for a great weekend!
